Obituary of Betty Louise Lucas
Betty Louise Lucas, 87, of Eureka, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021, at The Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing in Eureka. She was born in Oakwood Township, IL on January 11, 1934, to Jesse and Louise (Bailey) Divan. She married Robert Wayne Lucas on June 7, 1952, in Catlin, IL; he preceded her in death on October 29, 2010.
She is survived by her daughters, Patsy (Michael) Lucas-Edwards, Penny (Steve) Nastick, and son, Michael (Barbara) Lucas; a sister, Evelyn Laroe, as well as four surviving grandsons, Aaron (Amy) Shreeves, Lucas Edwards, Rob (Megan) Lucas and Marc (Jennifer) Lucas; and three great grandsons and great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Wilber Eugene "Gene" Divan and her grandson, Jeremy Shreeves.
Betty enjoyed church, playing on her keyboard, singing, sewing, jewelry making, and creating various arts and crafts. As a child, she enjoyed farm life with her older brother, Gene, and younger sister, Evelyn. In high school, she was a majorette and drummer in the band and helped to compose the Catlin Highschool newsletter and senior yearbook. Betty was offered a scholarship in home economics at Southeastern College near Terra Haute, IN, which she declined. After high school, she was offered a job to sing in a band, but instead opted to marry the love of her life, Bob Lucas. She worked at several different jobs, such as a nurse's aide at Champaign County Nursing Home, licensed babysitter, assembler at Magnavox in Urbana, IL, bookkeeper at various businesses, and finally a salesclerk at The Land Between the Lakes Visitors Center and Gift Shop in Kentucky. Betty loved greatly and was loved by all who knew her.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Cremation Specialist of Central Illinois is assisting the family.
